iCode Robotics

Success Zone / Sienna Crossing -
2022 Fall

In this class, students will build robots and learn the skills of programming and engineering used to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. While students work to complete multi-phased challenges, they will realize that teamwork is needed to solve the problems of tomorrow!

Semester at a Glance:

Week Project Lesson/Activity
1 Introduction, Fan Robot Students are introduced to the Lego WeDo Kits and have a discussion on what defines a robot. For the lab, students build a fan robot and watch it move.
2 Crash course on Scratch, Wheel Car Students learn how to connect Lego WeDo robots to the computer on their own. For the lab, students build a wheel car robot and learn how to program it to move.
3 Movement, WobbleBot Students learn about different types of movement and how robots can move. For the lab, students build a wobble robot and program it to move.
4 Gears, Turn Robot Students learn about gears and why they are important to robotics. For the lab, students build a turning robot with gears and program it to move.
5 Motion Sensor, MotionBot Students learn about the motion sensor in the Lego WeDo kit and how motion sensors are used in real life. For the lab, students build a robot using a motion sensor and program it to detect motion.
6 Tilt Sensor, TiltBot Students learn about the tilt sensor in the Lego WeDo kit and how tilt sensors are used in real life. For the lab, students build a robot using a tilt sensor and program it to detect direction.
7 Motors, MiloBot Students learn all about motors. For the lab, students build Milo the rover and program him to move.
8 Ethics, Racecar Students learn about the ethics of building robots and what it means to make robots for ethical purposes. For the lab, students build a racecar and have a race.
9 Final Project, Part 1 Students get in groups and plan out an idea for their final project, which is a robot of their own design. The robot needs to serve a specific purpose and be ethical.
10 Final Project, Part 2 Students make finishing touches on their robots and later present them to their parents!
