Learning to play percussion instruments is a fun and rewarding way for students to express themselves, build confidence, and develop a lifelong appreciation for music. In this engaging class, students will learn fundamental percussion techniques, rhythm patterns, and basic music skills through hands-on instruction and practice. Whether they are exploring percussion for the first time or building on existing skills, students will enjoy creating music while developing coordination, timing, and musicality. All equipment will be provided during class.

Week Lesson
1 Find the Beat Focus: Introduction to the pulse of music. Instruments: Hand drums and marching.

Activity: Playing a steady beat along with their own heartbeats.
2 Shake and Rattle Focus: Discovering untuned, high-pitched percussion. Instruments: Egg shakers and maracas.

Activity: Sound matching games and dynamic control (loud vs. soft shaking).
3 Scrape and Tap Focus: Exploring unique textures and playing methods. Instruments: Guiros, triangles, and castanets.

Activity: Creating "sound stories".
4 High vs. Low Focus: Understanding pitch differences in percussion. Instruments: Large bass drums vs. tiny finger cymbals.

Activity: "Giants and Fairies" movement game based on audio cues.
5 Introduction to Melody Focus: Transitioning from rhythm to pitched notes. Instruments: Xylophones and Glockenspiels.

Activity: Learning a simple two-note pattern (like "Starlight, Star Bright").
6 The Human Drum Kit Focus: Body percussion and internalizing rhythm. Instruments: Clapping, stomping, snapping, and chest patting.

Activity: Call-and-response rhythm copying games.
7-8 Colorful Harmony Focus: Pitch tracking and team coordination. Activity: Group performance where each child controls one color/note.
9 Rehearsal and Conducting Focus: Ensemble playing and following a leader. Instruments: Full instrument pet; mix of all previous tools.

Activity: Learning visual hand signs for "Start," "Stop," "Loud," and "Soft."
10 The Grand Finale Jam Focus: Performance and celebration. Instruments: Student choice.

Activity: A mini-concert showcase or recording session for parents.
