    Develop a small-scale fashion collection, kick off your fashion design business, and bring your designs to life all in one thrilling fashion class! In Fashion Design, through crafts and projects, students engage with different materials and learn a variety of design and sewing skills. As Fashion Entrepreneurs, students research trends, build a unique brand, and then turn that brand into a successful company! Week Lesson/Skills 1 Safety Talk and Rules (needles, pins, scissors, workspace, etc.) Learning the do’s and don’ts on the sewing machine. Each child will be given their own sketch book. Each child will be asked to bring their own doll to class (Barbie, doll, teddy bear) 2 Learn how to thread a needle and tie a knot (practice with yarn and plastic needles). Work on sketches. Learn to sew on machine. 3 Learn hand sewing. Work on sketches and learning the variations of fabric along with cutting out patterns. 4 Stitch sewing on the sewing machine. Sew along pre-drawn lines, curves, and corners. 5-9 Prior weeks 1-5 will roll into weeks 5-9 along with sewing and designing doll dresses. 10 Fashion design presentation.
  • Make Your First Video Game

    Our classic game design camp reimagined to include even more of what you love! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that gives you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, level design, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun! Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Week Lesson/Activity 1 Introduction, GDevelop interface, and game design document creation. Focus on defining the game's core principles and mechanics. 2 Platformer toolkit usage and an introduction to choosing artwork for sprites. Students understand the modern platformer configuration and gather initial visual resources. 3 Setting up GDevelop accounts & template copying. Utilize the sprite splitter web tool to create & organize sprites from collected resources. 4 Creating the 2D walking animation. Assigning sprites to objects in GDevelop to display unique animations for character actions. 5 Introduction to scene / stage editing. Students modify the existing scene to create the first unique level of their game. 6 Working with layers/backgrounds, cloning & editing objects, and adjusting player behavior parameters to customize the character's feel. 7 Utilize additional behaviors to create enhanced player interactions, specifically focusing on adding functioning buttons to stage select. 8 Focus entirely on more advanced coding techniques required for modifying the boss stage, creating a unique and complex combat encounter. 9 Design title and character select scenes using Pixlr.com. Integrate working with audio by adding sound effects and background music. 10 Finalizing the project, exporting projects to a playable version, final project upload, and parent showcase.

    This beginner game development course is designed to get elementary-aged students excited about technology through hands-on and engaging learning activities. Recreate classic video games while exploring level design and digital arts concepts. Experience child-friendly software while learning the game development. Week Lesson/Activity 1 Introduction to Flowlab, basic navigation, and setting up a project. Editing basic objects and sprites. 2 Understanding playtesting and its importance in game design. Creating a basic level in the Space Pilot Game. 3 Reviewing previous work. Final project demonstration and playtesting. Introduction to lesson objectives and game vision. 4 Creating new objects and sprites. Understanding and applying player movement behavior bundles. 5 Using platforms and doors to create multi-level games. Exploring art design and sprite editing. 6 Reviewing previous work.     Our basketball class is designed for students interested in learning the fundamental skills and rules of basketball. Instruction will focus on the proper mechanics of dribbling, passing, shooting, and rebounding. The class combines skill development drills with game-like situations to improve physical fitness, foster teamwork, and enhance overall game understanding in a fun and educational environment. Students of all experience levels are welcome to participate!     Playing guitar—or any instrument—has a calming effect on the mind and body, it’s often said that music can soothe the soul. Simply listening to music has many benefits but learning to play an instrument can be even more beneficial. Playing a musical instrument is a brilliant way to express yourself and really focus on something you love. Week Skills Lesson/Activity 1 Guitar Basics Students will get familiar with the guitar and learn how to hold and tune their guitar. 2 Naming all the Parts of a Guitar Students will learn all the vocabulary and terms related to the guitar. 3 Strumming, Picking, Strings 1-6 Students will learn how to strum the guitar using their fingers/pick. 4 “Quite Guitars” and “Table Top” Students will learn how to quiet their guitar and how to place their guitar on their lap. 5 Playing Strings 1-6 Students will play along with the instructor as the instructor calls out the numbers of each individual string. 6 Song Introduction A new song will be introduced to the students along with various key stroke warmups. 7 Playing Students will play various songs. 8 Song Selection for Recital Students will decide which song they would like to focus on for their recital performance. 9 Practice for Recital Students will continue to practice for their recital performance. 10 Recital Day Parents will be invited to the last class to see their child’s performance.

They explore how triangles, arches, and bridges give strength to structures. 7 Under Pressure Kids discover how Bernoulli's principle can keep things in the air and how air pressure can be used to move things. 8 Wacky Water Children explore the amazing properties of water – density, solvency and surface tension – in this hands-on look at how water works. 9 Cell-ebrate Children build models of something they could otherwise not see. This modeling method helps students visualize the tiny factory parts that make up a working cell. 10 Ecosystems Students investigate the nature of ecosystems and cycles. These abstract concepts are made more accessible by role-playing food webs and modeling energy sources. The class learns about human impacts on the ecosystem and how field journals work to track the changes.
