Be a Master Artist at drawing cartoons inspired by artists and their styles. Experience a flowery adventure with Pop artists, patterns, and portraits. Make a funny facial expression before falling into a magical Surrealist dreamland. Don’t get too broken up by the Cubist style, instead let’s have a dog of a time, mark-making with an Abstract Expressionist.

Semester at a Glance

Week Artist Lesson/Activity
1 Pablo Picasso Create a snowman in the Cubist style using lines to create different sections and draw facial features from different perspectives.
2 Joan Miró Explore building with geometric and organic shapes to create a magical place with imagined characters inspired by Joan Miró.
3 Kaws Experiment with facial expressions and practice drawing using lines, shapes and color to create a character inspired by Kaws.
4 Yayoi Kusama and Keith Haring Create a pop art portrait using bright colors and patterns while learning about Keith Haring and Yayoi Kusama.
5 Philip Guston Vermeer Portrait Doodle
Explore creating texture using mark making and sgraffito on a character inspired by Philip Guston art.
6 Frida Kahlo Explore the use of lines and bold colors to create a Frida Kahlo inspired portrait that reflects her Mexican culture.
7 Takashi Murakami Draw anime-inspired people using 3D shapes and crosshatching to create volume.
8 Creative Inspiration Showcase /Artist Challenge
Children will select the materials for their creative inspiration and parents will be invited to join in on the fun.
