In iCode's Game Development course, students will gain hands-on insight into iCode’s project-based STEM curriculum, learning foundational concepts in game development, programming, and Construct 3. Additionally, they will gain exposure to critical soft skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and presentation skills needed to thrive in school and in the workplace.

Semester at a Glance

Week Skill Lesson/Activity
1 Introduction to Game Development Students learn about game development and the roles of game players and game developers. They explore game development as a potential career path.
2 Game Elements and Aesthetics Students learn about the four elements of a game and explore aesthetics and narratives in games.
3 Construct 3 User Interface Students get familiar with Construct 3's interface, practicing navigation and exploring its tools and features.
4 Sprite Integration Students learn about sprites, design their main character, and incorporate it into their game. They also create asteroid sprites.
5 Event Sheet Programming Students work on the event sheet to program their game's conditions. They refine their main character and program its movement and interactions with asteroids.
6 Advance Sprite Design and Programming Students enhance sprite designs and programming, refining asteroid sprites and interactions with the main character. They independently create additional asteroid variations and refine programming for more complex interactions.
7 Playtesting and Iteration Students learn the importance of playtesting and iteration in game development.
8 Final Presentation Students showcase their games to their parents.
